High Plains Chautauqua
High Plains Chautauqua is a signature Weld County event, a beloved living-history festival held annually in Greeley. Each year HPC typically draws a total audience of up to 7,000 from all over Colorado and beyond. Entertaining professional performances by nationally acclaimed Chautauqua scholars serve as catalysts for discussion and learning each festival night. Additional daytime events for adults and youth are held throughout Chautauqua week. The whole community benefits from High Plains Chautauqua, which enhances Weld County’s cultural profile and benefits local businesses. More than 50 Weld County volunteers contribute their time and energy to put on the festival, as do numerous community institutions and organizations, including Aims Community College, the City of Greeley Museums, Greeley-Evans School District 6, High Plains Library District, and the Greeley Chamber of Commerce. Over 150 businesses, foundations, and individuals sponsor with cash and in-kind donations, and each year the Mayor of Greeley proclaims the first week of August to be “High Plains Chautauqua Week.” To support HPC is to give back to the community, invest in its vitality, and earn its appreciation and respect.
